The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has revealed its next-generation GEN4 race car ahead of its competition debut in the 2026-27 season.

Unveiled during a demonstration at Circuit Paul Ricard on April 21, the GEN4 machine is capable of exceeding 208 mph, accelerating from 0-62 mph in approximately 1.8 seconds and reaching 0-124 mph in just 4.4 seconds––1.5 seconds faster than its predecessor. In race mode, the car delivers 50% more power than the current GEN3 Evo, while ATTACK MODE boosts output to 600 kW, a 71% increase. GEN4 is also the only single-seater race car with permanent all-wheel drive.

According to Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and Formula E, the GEN4 car is expected to be approximately 10 seconds faster per lap in qualifying trim than GEN3 and at least five seconds faster on street circuits, setting a new benchmark for the series.

Manufacturers involved in the GEN4 program include Porsche, Jaguar, Nissan, Mahindra, Lola Cars and Stellantis, with Opel representing the latter as it prepares to join the grid for the 2026-27 season.

As the only all-electric FIA World Championship, Formula E continues to position itself as a proving ground for next-generation vehicle technology, with developments such as 600 kW charging and high-efficiency motors feeding into future road-going EV applications.
